The Oxford Book of English Verse, in the Quiller-Couch edition, is the only book I've ever worn out two copies of. One of them was a hardback. Even so, I don't feel like I know the book, or English verse in general, anywhere near as well as I'd like. For this reason, I intend to work through this rich and sometimes idiosyncratic selection of English poetry, providing historical background, some textual analysis and a little personal response. I will select the order randomly.
I'm not a literary critic, but I'm roughly familiar with some of the technicalities of poetry and practices of criticism. I may become more familiar as time passes.
